Caring Fields Animal Sanctuary, a 23-acre animal sanctuary in Palm City, Florida, is owned and managed by the Pegasus Foundation.
The mission of Caring Fields is to provide a safe place for the rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of equines and cats in need; and through education, promote a more compassionate world.
Caring Fields, which serves as a corridor for local wildlife, is designated as a wildlife sanctuary by the Humane Society of the United States Wildlife Land Trust.
The Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation (ERAF) utilizes the Caring Fields Animal Sanctuary’s barn and 15 acres of fields for rehabilitating abused and neglected horses with the goal of eventual adoption into permanent homes. ERAF cares for about a dozen horses at Caring Fields at any given time. Since it began in 2000, ERAF has found homes for more than 80 horses.
The Hobe Sound Animal Protection League (HSAPL) operates both indoor and outdoor catteries at Caring Fields, where rescued, homeless and feral cats are re-socialized and given the care they need before being re-homed. All animals that come to HSAPL that cannot be adopted for medical or other reasons receive care for the rest of their lives.
HSAPL was founded in 2000 when it was discovered that the feral cat population was getting out of control in Hobe Sound, Florida and surrounding communities. HSAPL introduced a trap-neuter release program, which led to a reduction in the size of feral cat colonies. Three years later, HSAPL opened a cattery on the property now known as the Caring Fields.
Today, HSAPL operates three distinct facilities within Caring Fields for homeless cats.
