For Pets Sake (Springdale, Arkansas) is a tax-exempt organization that promotes animal welfare in Northwest Arkansas.
The mission of For Pets Sake is to aid the elderly with pet expenses; start a microchipping program for all adopted pets in the NWA area; raise public awareness of animal welfare through educational programs in area schools; find permanent homes for homeless and stray pets through fostering (fostering program temporarily suspended due to lack of foster homes to care for orphaned pets); and network with other animal welfare organizations.
Best Friends senior program is in full swing with food donations from Petco, flea collars donated by Hartz, and a pledge of cash cards from Wal-mart. Many senior citizens on limited incomes can benefit from this program, which will help them to afford their companion animals. For Pet’s Sake is now accepting applications for seniors who would like to have a pet but need assistance with any of the following:
Financial aid for vet care ($50 max per year, one office visit)
Transportation for the pet and owner to the vet or groomer
Pet food
Pet sitting (in case of hospitalization)
Applicants must qualify by age (60 years and older) and annual income (max $18,000) for financial assistance. FPS believes that these services will serve seniors in the area well, and also meshes well with the Fayetteville Animal Shelter’s (Fayetteville, Arkansas 72701) program that aims to match older pets with seniors.
