HEART Companion Cats For Seniors

January 24, 2010 by The PetWork®

The Companion Cats for Seniors program at HEART (Hamburg, New York 14075) is designed to give older cats the opportunity to be placed in a loving home.

Many senior citizens would benefit from the company of a pet but avoid animal companionship because of the thought “what would happen to my pet if something happens to me” or the cost of pet ownership.

The Companion Cats for Seniors program at HEART is designed to give older cats the opportunity to be placed in a loving home. It matches older cats (6+ years) with qualified senior citizens. Older cats don’t ask for much -– just a warm place to sleep, good meals, and plenty of love!! Both senior and cat benefit from a loving companion.

  • There is no adoption fee!!
  • HEART pays for the cat’s annual vet visits, vaccines, and other medical needs.
  • For seniors who are unable to get out and about, HEART can help transport the cat to the vet.
  • Should the senior become unable to care for their pet it is returned to HEART.

HEART Animal Rescue & Adoption Team Inc. was formed in 1984 by dedicated volunteers who realized that Western New York had a serious stray cat and dog problem. Since HEART’s inception, it has saved the lives of thousands of animals.

HEART is an all-volunteer, non-profit, no-kill organization whose main objective is to alleviate the suffering of neglected, injured, orphaned, sick, or abused animals in Western New York.

HEART is the advocate for the “underdog” whether feline or canine, fur or feather. It believes that all animals deserve the right to live a good quality life, regardless of handicap or personality.

HEART does not rehome personal pets. Its focus is on ferals and strays and the animals that scavenge for food and shelter to survive. They are animals that once belonged to someone who never took the time to spay or neuter them, so they strayed from home, never to find their way home again. They are the kittens and puppies born to unspayed animals and left to die. They are animals injured through abuse or neglect and facing life-threatening situations.
